About the Smart Balance® Blend

Many Smart Balance® products are based on a patented blend of vegetable oils designed by nutrition researchers at Brandeis University. This pivotal study showed that the right blend of polyunsaturated (PUFA), monounsaturated (MUFA), and saturated (SAT) fats can help support healthy cholesterol levels already within the normal range by improving the HDL:LDL ratio.


The researchers took these data and further refined them by choosing the right saturates for optimal results in our spreads. Our patented blend of all natural vegetable oils contains carefully proportioned amounts of palm fruit, canola, soybean, and olive oils, with no hydrogenated or interesterified fats, and no palm kernel oil.
